Mark, un agent du FBI, marié et père d'un bébé, est muté dans un ville des Appalaches, dans le Kentucky. Rapidement, il se retrouve embarqué dans un trafic de drogue avec sa principale indic, Susan. Celle-ci tente de profiter de lui pour se sortir de la misère dans laquelle elle vit. Mais rien ne se passe comme prévu et Susan embarque Mark dans une spirale infernale. Le scandale est tel qu'il secoue les fondations du FBI et met en péril le mariage de Mark
