Un employé du centre des postes, aussi appelé «centre des lettres mortes», découvre un corps réparti dans plusieurs colis. L'enquête permet de remonter jusqu'à une imprimerie et d'identifier la victime, un employé qui avait disparu après avoir remporté, avec plusieurs collègues, une grosse somme d'argent à la loterie... Parallèlement, Booth apprend par son grand-père que son père est décédé. Brennan cherche alors à aider son compagnon dans ce deuil qui le laisse pourtant de marbre
