Urbain Dieudonné, patron d'une société de construction de maisons préfabriquées, se rend chez sa grand-mère, Zézette. Tous deux sont de parfaits pingres. Urbain a comme fidèle chauffeur Jacques, un ami d'enfance qui lui doit la vie. Avec sa grand-mère, il concocte un détournement d'argent pour échapper au fisc : il change l'argent en lingots d'or.
