Susanne annonce à Gunther Sikora, son amant, qu'elle refuse de divorcer pour vivre avec lui. Gunther accuse le coup et tente de discuter, mais rien n'y fait : Susanne a fait son choix. Une discussion orageuse éclate. Dans son emportement, Gunther tombe au fond d'un ravin. Susanne intervient et appelle son mari, un médecin. Malgré cet appel à l'aide, Gunther perd la vie. Après ce dramatique accident, Susanne hésite à faire connaître la vérité, d'autant plus qu'elle pourrait être accusée de non-assistance à personne en danger, voire de meurtre
