La ville de Pablo Robles, cible des météorites, est mise en quarantaine. Imogène, libérée, a retrouvé le Dr Lehman à l'université. Il peut localiser la trajectoire du météore géant «Pénélope» qui va s'écraser sur la Terre. Alors qu'ils embarquent à bord d'un hélicoptère en direction de Washington, un météore tombe sur l'appareil et blesse grièvement le Dr Lehman. Lui seul connaît l'algorithme permettant de détruire «Pénélope» avant qu'il ne s'écrase
