À son réveil d'une nuit provoquée par hypnose, le caporal Laney Alimonte, insomniaque chronique, trouve une arme ensanglantée dans son frigo. Elle ne se souvient de rien. Ses empreintes sont sur l'arme dont le propriétaire, Joe Cortez, est retrouvé mort, abattu par cette arme. Laney accuse le docteur Pershing, son hypnothérapeute, de l'avoir poussée au crime. Celui-ci nie et affirme que personne ne peut pousser quelqu'un à tuer sous hypnose. Jack fait appel à la psychologue Grace Confalone pour les aiderIk kijk Ik zap
